Ctrip Launches AI Travel Planner: One Sentence Generates Complete Itinerary

Ctrip has launched TripGenius 2.0, an AI-powered travel planning tool.

How It Works

In the Ctrip app, users can input something like "Taking my parents to Yunnan for the May Day holiday, budget 10,000 RMB, 5 days and 4 nights, not too tiring," and the AI will automatically:

  • Plan the itinerary and attractions for each day
  • Recommend hotels (based on budget and ratings)
  • Book flights (selecting the most cost-effective options)
  • Generate a bundled quote

No human customer service is needed throughout the entire process.

Technical Implementation

It's likely built on large language models combined with Ctrip's own data — hotel inventory, flight information, user reviews, attraction guides, and more. By integrating vertical industry data with LLM semantic understanding, it's far more reliable than general-purpose AI.

Impact on Traditional Travel Agencies

If an app can accomplish in 30 seconds what takes a travel agency 3 days, traditional travel agencies will indeed face significant disruption. However, AI still falls short of human agents when it comes to personalized recommendations and special requests — such as "I'm looking for a cliffside restaurant suitable for a marriage proposal."

The AI transformation of the travel industry appears to be an irreversible trend.
