Vision Pro 2 Launches: Lighter and Cheaper, But Still Not Selling Well?

Apple has released the Vision Pro 2, which is significantly lighter than the first generation and comes at a lower price.

Improvements

  • Weight: 350g (first generation was 600g+)
  • Price: $2499 (first generation was $3499)
  • Chip: M4
  • Battery life: 4 hours (first generation was 2.5 hours)
  • Wearing method: No external battery pack needed

But the Problems Remain

  1. Lack of killer apps: Besides watching videos and giving presentations, everyday use cases are limited
  2. Social awkwardness: Wearing such a large headset out in public still feels odd
  3. Developers haven't caught up: There are still very few apps specifically built for Vision Pro

My Take

The Vision Pro's hardware is indeed impressive, but the concept of "spatial computing" hasn't been embraced by the mainstream yet. It may take until Vision Pro 3 or 4 to see a real market breakthrough.

Interestingly, the Meta Quest is actually selling quite well — because it's affordable ($499) and has a mature gaming ecosystem. Apple's premium approach may not be the right fit for this product category.
